Jocelyn Roberts, an 11-year-old from Cleveland, TX, was on a family hunting trip on a friends Ranch in Rye, near Houston, when she made the catch of the weekend.
Using raw chicken as bait, Roberts reeled in a massive 300-pound alligator.
Jocelyn said she spotted about 40 alligators before deciding where to set the hook. When one finally took the bait, she let her father and brother pull it from the water before she stepped in to finish the job.
She told KHOU, “I got scared because of how big it was for a second, but I wasn't that scared.”
Following the catch, Jocelyn’s dad Trey and her brothers processed the alligator for meat, and the hide is being tanned to be used for leather goods.
