So much has happened in the world, it’s hard to remember the time when nobody could afford eggs because they were so expensive. Or remember when restaurants were adding that egg surcharge?
Well watch out North Texas, because now we are about to be inundated with eggs.
North Texas is about to receive about 50,000 dozen eggs, or two million individual eggs, following a settle with the state over allegations of egg price gouging during the pandemic.
According to NBC DFW, the eggs will be delivered to food banks across Texas as part of a settlement with Cal-Maine Foods, Incorporated, who were sued by Attorney General Ken Paxton for illegally raising the price of eggs by some 300-percent during the pandemic.
Enrique Rodriguez with the North Texas Food Bank said, “It's coming at a time when we're trying to replenish ourselves for the folks that we serve, and this is going to go a long way to helping out our families.”
Tarrant Are Food Bank, as well as food banks in Houston, San Antonio, and the Rio Grande Valley are also among those receiving the free eggs.
