In Contra Costa County, a plan to ramp up coronavirus vaccine distribution has been announced with a goal of vaccinating 80% of the county by June.
Right now, the county is administering about 3,000 vaccines each day.
In order to hit their goal, Contra Costa County health officials said they need to more than double that to 7,000 people a day, requiring full mobilization of healthcare resources.
"We think our county can meet our immunization goals if every hospital and healthcare worker in the community pitches in," said Dr. Ori Tzvieli, Deputy Health Officer.
They will start to vaccinate people in Phase 1B in the next two weeks.
That includes about 300,000 county residents.
"We’re looking at people over 75 years old and essential workers such as teachers, police and grocery workers," he added.
But don’t expect to see any stadium parking lots with mass vaccination sites. Everyone must have an appointment. Most will be done through your own healthcare provider.
Contra Costa Health Services Director Anna Roth said if you are eligible and don’t have a healthcare provider, you can sign up on the county’s website.
"Once that’s confirmed you would get contacted through us," Roth said.
