Family members have identified the two victims killed in a shooting on a party bus in Oakland early Tuesday morning as two teenage girls.

16-year-old Zoey Hughes of Modesto and 19-year-old Alayasia Thurston of Stockton were killed after someone opened fire on the bus while it was traveling on I-580 just after midnight Tuesday.

They were part of a group celebrating a 21st birthday.

Police in Oakland say they suspect that there were multiple shooters responsible, using high capacity weapons to fire an estimated 70 rounds into the bus.

The bus was on I-580 east near the Seminary Ave. off ramp when the shots started. The driver got off the freeway in an effort to escape but the shots continued at Foothill Blvd. and 68th Ave. before the driver was able to make their way to the Eastmont Police Substation.

Five additional people - all of them younger teens - were injured in the attack.

The CHP has said previously that the attack was not random. No details have been released about the shooters' vehicle or the motive behind the attack. The suspect or suspects remain at large.
