We've been talking about this for about a week and I'm still angry. Do you know why? Because local leaders have ignored these families in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood, and they've kept ignoring them for nearly four years.
This is unacceptable. It cannot be allowed to continue, and damn it we're getting something done about it.
Watch the video on this page to meet two neighbors who are living with this filth. One is getting older and is having health problems because of it. The other has five children, one of which has special needs.
From the street, you wouldn't know there's anything wrong. Aside from being surrounded by a couple of abandoned homes, these houses are well kept and maintained. But as you get closer, the smell of sewage starts to hit you.
This is what they're dealing with inside their basements:

It's not just one home. The problem is affecting several and it all started four years ago when the PWSA repaired a sinkhole in the alleyway. Since then, this is what these folks have been dealing with.
They hired plumbers to look at their side and were told it's a problem with the PWSA's lines, the PWSA says the opposite.
These people are left in limbo and we are not letting this go on any longer.

Ken Cuccaro is sickened at the situation that is just blocks away from his own plumbing company. He's getting involved to get to the root of the problem and says he'll do whatever it takes to help us get this fixed.

I can't say enough how grateful I am to be surrounded by people who actually care what is happening around them.
In the picture above you'll notice Tony Moreno with me and Tonya and Duane. He's the guy who brought this problem to me and he's just as angry about it as I am.
