PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Save A Lot store manager remains in critical condition Wednesday night after being shot in the face by a customer, while another customer pulled a gun on a security guard at the store.

Police say the incidents happened Sunday at about 6:30 p.m. inside the East Germantown location on Chew Avenue.

Capt. James Kearney said the store manager was trying to remove a man and a woman from the store, and asked security for help.

"Our investigation seems to be revealing that they were upset over a can of gravy, or lack thereof, in the store,” said Kearney.

He said the woman took out a gun and pointed it at the security guard who disarmed her, disabled the weapon, and continued to walk the two out.

"The male, with his gun drawn, demanded that the security guard give the female back her gun, which was unloaded at the time,” said Kearney. “He gave her the gun back and [they] started to come back into the store.”

The man pointed his gun at the manager and shot him in the face before the two ran off, according to Kearney.

"We're talking about two guns that are on the street. We're talking about people who instantly decided to come back into that store and fire a round at this man, just doing his job,” said Kearney.

The suspects ran toward a nearby apartment complex.

Investigators are asking for the public's help identifying them. They believe the two live in the area and may have shopped at the store before.

Police say the woman is 30 to 40 years old. She was wearing a white and black pattern jacket, a pink bonnet, a long-sleeve black shirt, dark blue pants, black boots, and a black face mask at the time of the incident.

According to police, the man is about 40 years old, with a full salt-and-pepper-colored beard, wearing a dark blue coat over a dark hoodie, a black knit cap, black pants with a solid white stripe on the side, and white sneakers.
