Winter storms delay Pennsylvania delivery and distribution of COVID-19 vaccine

This week's winter storms have had an adverse impact on the COVID-19 vaccine delivery and distribution throughout Pennsylvania.

Department of Health Senior Advisor for COVID-19 Response Lindsey Mauldin says the weather has affected the shipment of both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines from the manufacturing facility.

Mauldin says the CDC is working with shipping partners and distributors to resume shipments as quickly and safely as possible.

Despite those efforts, Mauldin says there will be a significant backlog of orders for distribution of both vaccines.

Mauldin recommends that if you have an appointment to receive the COVID vaccine, call ahead before you travel to make sure that your shot is still available.

On Wednesday, the state said a mix-up in vaccine doses lead to some providers giving the wrong Moderna shots which is likely to cause delays that could affect thousands of Pennsylvanians waiting for the vaccine.
