Walmart, Sam’s Club offering coronavirus vaccines in Western PA — Here’s how to book yours

25 locations around the area are scheduling appointments

Walmart has expanded its offerings for the COVID-19 vaccine across most of the U.S., the retail giant said.

The vaccine is now available across nearly 4,000 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations in 48 states, as well as Puerto Rico and Washington, DC, the company said in a press release on Friday, including Pennsylvania.

Locally, 25 Walmart locations in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area are currently scheduling vaccination appointments.

“As the COVID-19 vaccine rollout ramps up and vaccine eligibility widens, Walmart is administering vaccines in more than 3,800 stores and clubs across 48 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Walmart has worked to administer COVID-19 vaccines into the arms of residents in rural and vulnerable areas across the country,” said Dr. Cheryl Pegus, executive vice president of health and wellness at Walmart, in the statement.

“More than 80% of shots administered through our pharmacies and 60+ dedicated community events were in what HRSA designates as the most medically underserved areas of the country,” she added.

The company said their continued expansion of the offering will remain focused on “reaching communities with access issues and vaccine hesitancy” where the company has a presence.

“That continued focus will play a key role in reopening the country, and we hope to do even more and expand vaccine administration to all 5,400 Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies when allocation allows,” Pegus said in the statement.

Walmart first announced it was “ready” to administer the COVID vaccine in approximately 5,000 locations back in January.

Eligible customers can check for available appointments in newly activated areas through Walmart’s digital scheduler at walmart.com/COVIDvaccine and at SamsClub.com/covid.
