PLAYA DEL REY, LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Two people died in a crash Friday morning as police said a pair of suspects attempted to escape officers in the Playa del Rey neighborhood.

The 4:15 a.m. crash on W. Manchester Ave. occurred after Los Angeles police attempted to stop a vehicle, the department said. The vehicle immediately fled from the area, eventually crashing into three other cars near Manchester Avenue and Broadway.

"This was never a pursuit," the department clarified to CBS L.A.

First responders said two people died in the four-car crash. Another person was hurt but did not require a trip to the hospital.

LAPD said the two suspects in the vehicle it approached tried to run from police. Officers arrested one suspect, but the other got away, authorities said.
