A single-engine plane crashed into a hangar at Cable Airport in Upland Sunday morning, killing the pilot and two passengers.
Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at the airport at 6:40 a.m. On arrival, they found the plane in flames, with an immediate threat to a hangar and fuel truck located nearby. Crews were able to put out the fire in about fifteen minutes.
Three people were found dead inside the plane, but no one else inside the hangar was injured.
San Bernardino County Fire spokesperson Eric Sherwin said it appears the plane was attempting to take off from the airport when the crash occurred.
“The plane was located adjacent to the hangar. It does look like at least a portion of the airplane did make contact with the hangar itself,” he told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.
The incident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.
