Barefoot man struck, killed walking on 215 Freeway in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (CNS) — A man who police said was walking barefoot on the Escondido (215) Freeway in Riverside died after being struck by a vehicle this morning.

A witness told the California Highway Patrol at 2:28 a.m. that a man wearing shorts and no shoes was walking in the same direction as traffic in the slow lane of the southbound Escondido Freeway just north of Blaine Street.

The driver of a silver Mercedes notified the CHP at 2:36 a.m. that she had possibly hit a body in the lanes.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

A SigAlert was issued at 2:54 a.m., shutting down all southbound lanes near the crash scene.
