LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A 7-Eleven convenience store clerk fatally stabbed a man early Wednesday during an altercation inside the Mid-Wilshire store.

The stabbing was reported just after midnight at the store, located in the 5200 block of West Olympic Boulevard, according to Los Angeles Police Department Det. Meghan Aguilar.

The 40-year-old man entered the store and got into an altercation with the clerk, before the man was stabbed, Aguilar said. The man was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife, according to City News Service.

The stabbing victim was taken to the hospital, where he died sometime after 3 a.m., according to Aguilar.

The clerk is currently being interviewed as detectives work to determine what happened and whether he will be booked for a crime, Aguilar said.

She added that there does not seem to be a pre-existing relationship between the man and the clerk, and it’s unclear what caused the argument.
