Driver opens fire on pickup truck in alleged road rage incident on 15 Freeway

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (KNX) — Two 19-year-olds escaped a close call when bullets struck the pickup truck one was driving on the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore on Sunday.

The driver, who was behind the wheel of a white 2001 Ford Ranger, may have inadvertently cut off a black 2001 Chevrolet SUV shortly after 5:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes near Diamond Drive, according to California Highway Patrol.

The victims said an occupant of the Chevrolet pointed a handgun at them through the front passenger window. They said they saw the muzzle flashed, and heard bullets hit the side of the truck. Neither were hit by gunfire.

The driver pulled over and called 911 while the SUV drove on.

CHP has designated the incident a road rage attack. No descriptions of the suspects were available.
