EL MONTE, LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A 31-year-old man is in custody for allegedly killing a woman who authorities believe was his 89-year-old grandmother.
Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, El Monte officers responded to a “check the welfare call for service” in the 11300 block of Cedar Circle, according to a press release by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers found the 89-year-old woman lying down with “significant trauma to the upper body.” She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died.
The male suspect was initially arrested as a person of interest after officers received information of a possible suspect; however, deputies said in the press release that the man “has since been arrested for the murder.”
