Hancock Park murder suspect arrested in Pasadena

PASADENA, Calif. (KNX) — The man suspected of fatally stabbing a furniture store employee last week in Hancock Park was in custody Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the arrest of Shawn Laval Smith, 31, who is suspected in the slaying of 24-year-old Brianna Kupfer.

Smith was arrested around 11:50 a.m.in the area of Fair Oaks and Colorado boulevards in Pasadena, according to police.

The arrest was made less than 24 hours after police released a video and mugshots of Smith. A $250,000 reward was offered for information leading to his arrest.

Kupfer, a UCLA grad student, was stabbed to death while working alone at Croft House furniture store last Thursday.
