Orange County, Calif. (KNX) - Adrienne Kessler, the CEO of the Speech and Language Development Center in Buena Park, has been helping patients and families impacted by autism for 28 years.

LISTEN:

She tells KNX reporter Heather Jordan that her experience working in special needs and disability services - predominantly with autism spectrum disorders - has profoundly impacted her life.

Formal training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy "opened my eyes into the possibility that there's so much potential in individuals with autism," Kessler said.

Kessler helps her clients reach their potential by designing, building, and deploying programs for not just the individual but their teachers, parents, and communities.

"I think the overarching theme of my career has really been about creating accessibility and inclusion for individuals impacted by autism and related disorders," Kessler tells KNX.

According to their website, the SLDC is "a non-profit school and therapy center for children and adults with special needs. We provide special education services K- 12 and transition, Adult Day Programs, and full Therapy Services."

Adrienne Kessler and the SLDC team have set out to make the world more accessible for the 1 in 44 children impacted by autism, earning her the title of KNX Hero of the Week.
