LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Businesses in the city of Los Angeles that require proof of vaccination to enter will now be able to roll back indoor mask mandates for vaccinated customers and employees, Mayor Eric Garcetti said Friday. The change aligns the city with L.A. County, which made similar changes earlier this week.
"We are able to take these steps today because of our collective determination and sacrifice, and we should take pride in that," Garcetti said in a statement. "But we’re not out of the woods, and we know that as the pandemic evolves, our collective fate will increasingly depend on our individual choices and actions."
The new options available, as long as a business requires proof of vaccination to enter, are:
1) Businesses are allowed to lift indoor masking requirements for customers and workers. To be eligible, a business must verify the vaccination status or a negative test result for 100% of their customers and workers. This enables them to lift the indoor mask requirement for everyone at the business who is fully vaccinated, including customers and workers.
2) Businesses are allowed to lift masking requirements for customers only. The business must verify the vaccination status or a negative test result for 100% of their customers only. This enables the business to lift the indoor mask requirement for fully vaccinated customers only; workers must continue to wear masks when indoors regardless of vaccination status.
Customers and workers who are not fully vaccinated or who do not show proof of vaccination must continue to wear face coverings when indoors, regardless if they provide a negative COVID test.
"Rolling back masking requirements is optional for businesses, and customers and workers may continue choosing to wear a mask," Garcetti said, making it clear that this will be a case-by-case basis.
The change apply to a wide variety of businesses, Garcetti's office said, including offices, manufacturing facilities, warehouse, retail, food and beverage services, theaters, family entertainment center,s meetings and state and local government offices that serve the public.
