LOS ANGELES (KNX) – The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced Tuesday it would allow indoor businesses that verify vaccination statuses to make masking indoors optional for vaccinated guests.

The new order will go into effect after midnight Friday.

Health officials said businesses who want to allow fully vaccinated customers and employees must “verify that 100% of customers (5 and older) and workers prior to, or upon, entry to indoor spaces provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19, or provide proof of a recent negative COVID-19 viral test result.” The tests must be taken within two days prior to entry.

Another option health officials have given businesses that want to allow fully vaccinated customers to go maskless inside while employees stayed masked must verify customer’s vaccination status or have guests show COVID-19 test results. Customers not fully vaccinated must wear a mask, except when eating and drinking.

One day prior to the department's official announcement, Supervisor Janice Hahn announced Tuesday on her Twitter page that the department will issue the new health order.
