LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Los Angeles County deputies are investigating a “follow home robbery” in West Hollywood that’s leaving residents concerned for their safety.
The victims were outside their apartment complex on North Kings Road around 2 a.m. Saturday morning when two men robbed them, CBS LA reported.
It was later revealed the two suspects had followed the victims in a “dark-colored Mercedes” prior to the mugging. The building’s management reportedly called deputies.
While the victims weren’t hurt, the incident has caused more concern for safety in the neighborhood. Dave Frank, who lives in the building next to the one where the mugging, occurred said break-ins are becoming more apparent.
“The last couple of months, I’ve started to worry because we’ve had break-ins in the building,” he said to the news outlet. “We’ve had break-ins in the garage, and it seems like a new thing.”
Deputies and the building manager said there is a video of the North Kings Road mugging; however, official said they’re not releasing the footage at this time.
It comes a week after Los Angeles police said a woman and her baby were followed home and robbed in Hancock Park. Police after the men robbed the woman, they took off in “a silver sedan with tinter windows” that was parked across the street.
Los Angeles isn’t the only place experiencing a rise in burglaries. On Dec. 1, 81-year-old philanthropist Jacqueline Avant was killed during an invasion in her Beverly Hills home. The suspect in the shooting, 29-year-old Aariel Maynor, who was arrested during a Hollywood burglary one hour after Avant’s shooting death.
On Sunday, the city announced it would be increasing police presence in the area.
