LAPD arrests 16-year-old connected to murder of Melrose shoe store employee

The Los Angeles Police Department arrested a teenager Thursday in connection with the killing of a shoe store employee in the Melrose business district.

Jayren Bradford, 26, was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon after an altercation at the Shoe Palace on Melrose Avenue. Investigators said the issue began as a conflict between store employees and a group of people. They said a co-worker called Bradford to tell him about the conflict and he arrived at the store to help them out with the group.

According to police, the group confronted Bradford and the argument escalated into Bradford being shot. Homicide investigators connected a 16-year-old to the shooting.

The teen, who has not been identified as male or female, was found Thursday afternoon in the 8100 block of State Street in South Gate, police said in a release. They were arrested and booked for the murder of 26-year-old Bradford and the case will be presented to the District Attorney for filing consideration on Monday, Aug. 16.

Police said extensive video and dozens of tips from the community were pivotal to the quick arrest. There are no outstanding suspects related to Bradford’s death.
