LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The Los Angeles Unified School District will drop its outdoor mask mandate for all students and staff starting Tuesday. That means masks will no longer be required at recess, outdoor lunches, or during open-air athletic activities.
“In alignment with the Department of Public Health and with guidance from our medical director and health partners, outdoor masking will be optional for all individuals in Los Angeles Unified Schools effective February 22 2022,” Supt. Alberto Carvalho said in a statement posted to Twitter on Friday.
The move aligns the district with L.A. County, which relaxed its outdoor masking rules on Wednesday. The change came as the county hit its target of fewer than 2,500 COVID-19 hospitalizations for seven consecutive days.
An indoor mask mandate remains in place for all students and staff.
