A girl’s youth softball team in Long Beach qualified for the Western nationals in Sacramento. Now, they’re raising money to attend.

Dave Lopez, the assistant coach for Long Beach Heartwell Fastpitch's 14U Gold Allstar Team, told KNX News it has been a long time since the team qualified for nationals.

“Our league hasn't qualified for nationals in about over 10 years,” he said.

In order to go though, he said the team needs $15,000 to pay for the eight-day trip, which includes hotel, transportation, food, and uniforms.

“The more we spread the word, the better,” Lopez said. “You know, the families have been good at promoting this with their friends and relatives and so on. So, you know, little by little. I mean, we're getting more and more support but, you know, we still got a long way to go.”

A Go Fund Me was created for the team. As of Wednesday morning, the team raised $4,852.
