Man fatally shot by LAPD in Koreatown

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities today identified a man who was fatally
shot by Los Angeles police in Koreatown while allegedly armed with a handgun.

The shooting occurred about 8:15 a.m. Thursday near Eighth and Berendo
streets, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Marvin Cua, 24, of Los Angeles died at the scene, according to the Los
Angeles County coroner's office.

LAPD Capt. Aaron Ponce told reporters that officers were sent to the
location on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Responding officers encountered a man armed with a handgun, and the
shooting occurred, according to Ponce, commanding officer of the Olympic
Division. No officers were injured.

It was unclear if the man fired at officers. The shooting remains under investigation. A handgun was reportedly recovered at the scene.
