"The suspects demanded that they hand over their cellphones, then held them by their hair until they unlocked the access codes to the phones," the department said in a statement.

The girls complied, after which the suspects fled into a waiting vehicle containing two additional suspects police said were acting as lookouts.

The suspect, whose identity has been withheld due to minor status, was taken into custody after L.A. police served several search warrants in the LAPD Southeast Division, which covers the neighborhoods of Athens Park, Harbor Gateway, Jordan Downs, NIckerson Gardens, San Miguel, and Watts.

Additional arrests were pending, according to an LAPD statement.

Anyone with information on the robbery has been asked to call Detective Flores at the Wilshire Community Police Station at (213) 922-8217. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
