Los Angeles (KNX) - On Tuesday, a Pomona man was convicted of a federal offense for intentionally touching a sleeping woman's inner thigh during a flight from Cleveland to Los Angeles in February 2020.

LISTEN:

Mohammad Jawad Ansari, 49, was found guilty of one count of abusive sexual contact, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The four-day trial revealed that on February 17, 2020, Ansari boarded a flight at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport destined for Los Angeles International Airport. He took a window seat in the 10th row while the victim sat in the adjacent middle seat. She fell asleep shortly after takeoff, with the armrest between them lowered.

At some point during the flight, Ansari intentionally placed his left hand on the victim's right knee and moved it to her inner thigh without her consent. Another passenger in the aisle seat of the same row witnessed the incident.

Upon waking, the victim pushed Ansari's hand away, left her seat, and reported the situation to a flight attendant.

Throughout the remainder of the flight, the attendants monitored Ansari, suspecting he was feigning sleep.

U.S. District Judge Fernando Aenlle-Rocha has scheduled a sentencing hearing for September 29, where Ansari could face up to two years in federal prison.
