Flight attendants are taking a stand against unruly passengers by launching the "Assault Won't Fly" campaign.

Sparked by the surge of hostility that began during the COVID pandemic, the campaign aims to put an end to violent incidents in the sky by advocating for the passage of the Protection from Abusive Passengers Act.

This proposed legislation would prevent convicted violent passengers from boarding flights on any airline and exclude them from participating in the TSA PreCheck or Customs Global Entry programs.

Krista, a flight attendant, shared her concerns with KNX reporter Nataly Tavidian, saying, "Because somebody could literally get on my plane any time I'm working, and I would have no idea that they just assaulted somebody on another flight and then came over and got on my own."

Krista says tension between flight attendants and passengers grew during the pandemic when mask mandates were introduced. Many passengers viewed the flight crew as enforcing unnecessary measures, leading to an increase in aggression.

She explains, "People thought we were just being mean, which was part of our job. So take personal opinion completely out of it. That wasn't our choice. And that's kind of when it all started, and it hasn't really slowed down."

Unruly passengers have become so prevalent that the Transportation Workers Union recently reported that over half of surveyed flight attendants have experienced assault or harassment from a disruptive passenger within the last year.
