IRVINE, Calif. (KNX) — Three people were found dead in their Irvine home Wednesday, as police performed a welfare check prompted by concerned calls from Canadian family members to authorities.
Police checked the home around 10:30 a.m. at 58 Riverboat, an area just between State Route 261 and Woody Knoll, Irvine police said in a statement shared with KNX. Once inside police said they found three “severely decomposed” bodies.
The bodies are believed to be that of a mother, father and their adult son, who relatives said they had not heard from in more than one year.
"Extended family members of the residents of the home reported to Canadian authorities they had been unable to reach the residents for over one year and were concerned," the Irvine Police Department (IPD) said. "Canadian authorities contacted IPD and requested a welfare check."
As there were no signs of forced entry into the home, and "some indications of a domestic-related incident," police said they believe the deaths to be a possible murder-suicide.
Regardless, investigators said they continue to search for potential suspects.
