Suspect in crash that killed man and 3-year-old daughter in Long Beach identified

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — Authorities have asked for the public’s help in locating a 24-year-old man suspected of crashing his pickup truck into a Long Beach apartment building, killing a 42-year-old man and his daughter inside.

Octavio Montano Islas was believed to be driving the 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck northbound on Rose Avenue near East Artesia Boulevard at around 10 p.m. on March 1 when it smashed into a residential apartment complex, killing the two victims. He then fled the scene, according to Long Beach police.

Jose Palacios Gonzalez died at the scene; his daughter, Samantha Palacios, was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Witnesses told police the driver had been at a nearby bar prior to the crash.
