The Ventura County Sheriff's Department has turned its investigation into assault allegations by the housekeeper of pop star Britney Spears over to prosecutors, The Los Angeles Times has reported.
The Ventura County D.A.'s office will now render a decision on whether to charge Spears with misdemeanor battery, Capt. Eric Buschow said on Friday.
Spears was accused of battery earlier in August by household employee who said the singer struck her during a verbal altercation about her dogs.
“It is routine for a matter like this to be sent to the D.A.’s misdemeanor unit,” Mathew Rosengart, the singer’s attorney, said in a statement. Rosengart further claims that the matter resulted in "no injuries" to the housekeeper.
"There was also no striking, and if this did not involve Britney Spears this never would have been reported at all," he said.
