Rapper Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday for shooting and wounding rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

Judge David Herriford handed down the sentence after a hearing that stretched over two days with the defense offering a marathon of witnesses testifying on Lanez's behalf.
Prosecutors asked for a prison term of 13 years, while defense attorneys were hoping the judge would grant their client probation that would include entering into a residential substance abuse program.
A jury convicted Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, on Dec. 23, 2022 of shooting the "Plan B" rapper in the foot.
Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, testified in court that on July 12, 2020, Lanez shot her in the foot after the two got into an argument. “I started walking away and I hear Tory yell, ‘Dance, bi–h,” she recalled, adding that she looked down at her feet and saw blood.
Lanez has maintained his innocence, saying in a now-deleted Instagram post, “Today I take a stance as an innocent Black man, wrongfully convicted of a crime I did not commit.”
In May, a judge denied Lanez’s motion for a new trial.
