We always hear that “money but can’t buy happiness,” well turns out that is a downright lie.
A new study suggests that happiness can in fact be bought, for the sum of $10,000!
Researchers gave 200 participants $10,000 in cash, and told them they had three months to spend it. They recorded how they felt on a monthly basis, and found that they reported being “happier and more satisfied” with their lives than another group that didn't get the money.
You think?!
According to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, the people who received the cash reported being happier months after the experiment, with some even saying they happier than they were when the experiment first started.
However, people with incomes above $123,000 did not report the same improvements in their happiness. Turns out already having a lot of money doesn’t make receiving money all that exciting.
The study also found that people from low-income countries like Brazil, Indonesia, and Kenya gained three times MORE happiness than those in high-income countries like Australia, Canada, the U.K., and the U.S.
