(KNX) — The Food and Drug Administration confirmed a recall for animal cookies sold at Target because they may have been contaminated with pieces of metal wire.

Cookie-maker D.F. Stauffer Biscuit Company, Inc. announced the recall for its 44-ounce Market Pantry White Fudge covered Animal Cookies late last week after someone found "metal [wire] inside a portion of the cookies," a statement said.

The animal-shaped cookies are covered in white fudge and rainbow sprinkles and are sold at Target in bear-shaped plastic containers.

If ingested, the cookies could result in people having injuries to their mouths or gastrointestinal systems.

The cookie containers that were recalled were sold at Target stores nationwide. No affected cookies were sent to any other distributors, the FDA said.

The affected lot number is Y052722, with an expiration date of Feb. 21, 2023, and a UPC code of 085239817698. Check the printed labels on the back side of the container’s product label, located below the nutritional panel.

Those with recalled containers of the cookies should stop eating them and contact Target to receive a full refund, the FDA’s statement said. Anyone with questions can call D.F. Stauffer Biscuit Co., Inc. at 888-480-1988.

This recall marks at least the second time Stauffer Biscuit has publicly warned of issues with its products. In 2017, the company recalled snacks packaged with other cookies that contained milk powder because of allergy concerns.
