Sanger woman arrested for setting man on fire, police say

SANGER, Calif. (KNX) – A Sanger woman and man were arrested for setting a man on fire, police said.

On Wednesday at 9:15 p.m., officers with the Sanger Police Department to the 700 block of Faller Avenue, where they met a man with “severe burns to his upper body.” The man told officers a woman had set him on fire at Sanger Park.

He was taken to the hospital. Police said he is expected to survive.

Investigators were later able to identify the suspect as Patricia Castillo,48, and Leonard Hawkins,43.

Footage from the department’s Community Video Surveillance System captured the incident unfolding at 8:30 p.m. Castillo was seeing approaching the man and “throwing a liquid from a cup onto him.” An argument ensued between the two when Castillo sparked a lighter, lighting the man on fire.

It was also revealed Hawkins “had provided the accelerant used to light the victim on fire”, police said.

Both Castillo and Hawkins were booked into Fresno County Jail for attempted murder, arson, and conspiracy charges.
