Arlington is helping one of its sister cities with its influx of Ukrainian refugees.
Bad Königshofen is a small Bavarian town located on what used to be the border of East and West Germany.
It's been a sister city of Arlington for more than 70 years, when the Texas city provided much-needed supplies to people who went there to escape the fighting during World War II.
Now amid the fighting in Ukraine, the mayor of Bad Königshofen reached out to Arlington Mayor Jim Ross.
"I've recently received a phone call and a request from the mayor of (Bad Königshofen)," Mayor Ross said. "Who has said that they are taking on an influx of Ukrainian refugees and they are in need of some help."
"Bad Königshofen is a small community of about 6,000 or 7,000 people," Ross continued, "and they're taking about 160 refugees in."
So Mayor Ross has launched a community donation campaign to help support those refugees.
From now until April 15th, all money donated will go towards Arlington's Sister City's efforts to provide a safe haven for those people who had to flee Ukraine.
"It's going to be used to help with transportation costs, vehicles, gasoline, food, clothing," Ross said. "Things such as that will go directly, 100%, to the refugees in our sister city."
At this time, it's unknown when or if any Ukrainian refugees will come to Arlington or North Texas -- but in that event, Ross says his city is ready.
"Our city, along with every other city that I'm aware of here in North Texas, is one of the most generous communities I've ever seen in my life," Ross said. "We'll do what is necessary to help house and feed any of these refugees that make their way to our city."
