Cars lined up along Parks Drive in DeSoto on Saturday, as hundreds of gun owners surrendered their firearms to police.

Due to the increasing gun violence in the city, the DeSoto Police department held a "gun buyback program" as a way to prevent future shootings.

Local residents were able to trade in their firearms, ammunition, and gun parts in exchange for gift cards.

The program was not just limited to DeSoto residents.

The department had a "no questions asked policy", and gun owners were not required to show an ID before surrendering their firearms.

According to DeSoto Police, the program was a success, and over 250 firearms were surrendered to be destroyed.

Police issued a one hundred dollar gift card for every firearm that was turned in.
