With flu season upon us, the Fort Worth ISD and Cook Children's Medical Center are reminding parents that a doctor's note is not required to keep a sick child home from school.

Cook Children's pediatricians, including the Urgent Care Centers, say so many parents are requesting doctor's notes to submit for school absences that the Fort Worth ISD had to update parents and families of the District's absentee policy.

the policy states if your child is sick you don't need a doctors note, you just need to contact the school.

RSV, COVID and the flu have ravaged the area, sending many to the hospital. The DFW Hospital Council is reporting an uptick in child hospitalizations following the Thanksgiving weekend, with over 400 patients admitted for flu and COVID each.

Cook Children's says they have seen a major increase in RSV cases in children as well.
