PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If those jeans, jackets and t-shirts are fitting a little more snugly than they used to, it's not just you.
It's referred to as the "quarantine 15," a phrase used when talking about the extra bad weight a lot of people put on during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A recent study shows some people put on about two pounds a month.
Now with restrictions lifting, many people are pushing to drop that excess weight.
"For most people. they don't know where to start," said personal trainer and performance enhancement specialist Gianna Gossett.
She believes getting back on the right track does not require a big budget or a lot of time in the gym.
"The easiest thing to do is cardio and changing your diet, and those are the hard things that people don't want to do," said Gossett, CPT & EPS, the owner and CEO of Philadelphia-based gBODY FITNESS.
She added that as always, discipline is key when it comes to shedding pounds, and you should not get too stressed if the weight is not dropping immediately. After all, it took some time to put it on.
"I tell my clients not to watch the scale, because depending on what kind of training your doing, the scale can be discouraging," she said.
"You could be losing inches over weight, and sometimes that's better."
Gossett added that people should try getting in as many outdoor workouts as possible, which can go a long way when it comes to making you feel better while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
