PHILADLEPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The boyfriend of a Philadelphia woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to third-degree murder for shooting and killing his girlfriend, the mother of his child, in the head.
Isis Williams frantically called her mother, who was across the country, on December 14, 2018. She was screaming and crying, saying her boyfriend Tyrese Lynch was at her door on Woodstock Street near Chelten Ave in East Germantown — with a gun, saying he was going to kill her.
Their 5-day-old baby girl was in her crib.
Williams, 24, locked herself in the bathroom as Lynch made his way into the house, prosecutors say. Williams’ mother previously testified at the preliminary hearing that she recognized the yelling voice as Lynch.
Lynch admitted to getting into the bathroom and firing at Williams. He admitted to shooting her in the head at close range, as well as her neck, torso and hand, within feet of their newborn baby.
Williams’ mother listened on the other line, hearing the shooting until the phone went dead. She called police and gave them Lynch’s information. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
Lynch pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child and a gun charge. He will be sentenced in December.
In court, the victims’ family sobbed through the details.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Williams had previously reported Lynch had assaulted her, but the charges were dropped when she recanted her story.
This is something that happens often with abused victims.
