PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — About two dozen people were shot over the weekend in Philadelphia, including four teenagers.

A 15-year-old was shot in the groin in Wayne Junction early on Monday. A 16-year-old was shot in the leg in West Philadelphia on Sunday.

Another 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were shot in their limbs in North Philadelphia along Bambrey Street.

A 10-year-old boy shot himself in the head on Saturday while he was home with other children. Officials believe it was accidental, though they are continuing to investigate.

And, 18-year-old Nasir Roberson was among four men killed this weekend. He was shot in the face and chest along Memphis Street, near Somerset Street, in Port Richmond Sunday morning.

City officials have announced tens of millions of dollars toward nonprofits and community groups in the hopes of quelling gun violence. More than 100 kids have been shot in Philadelphia so far in 2021, and the city is facing an all-time high of homicide victims for this point in the year.

Police say most of the shootings are motivated by arguments or drug incidents.

The city offers free gun locks to anyone who requests one.
