PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — New surveillance images show two cars driving in an area of North Philadelphia around the time of a hit-and-run that left a mother dead and her 3-year-old son critically injured.
Police and the family hope this will help someone from the public come forward with information.
Rebecca Malave and her son were walking along West Luzerne Street between Rising Sun Avenue and American Street, close to their home, on Aug. 8 when they were both struck by at least one car.
Malave, 37, died days after the incident. Her sister, Lorraine Graulau, said her nephew, Armani, has been left alone in the hospital, fighting for his life.
"We are here asking and pleading. We have pictures now," Gralau said.
"There’s two vehicles. And there’s other cars passing on the other side. If you were there at 8 p.m., 7:57 p.m., 7:55 p.m., and you saw the cars or a car, ... any little thing that you [saw], please contact us."
Police have released images of a dark-colored 2011 Chrysler 300 and a Red Toyota Camry, with a model year in the range of 2017-2021. Investigators are hoping someone can help identify the cars or drivers.

The award for tips that lead to an arrest has increased to $30,000, including $10,000 from the family who said they won’t rest until they get justice.
"She also has a 1-year-old daughter, and this one girl ... looks at her mom's pictures and calls for her mom. She doesn’t know she's gone. So when she sees the picture, she says, 'Mom, Mom, Mom,' and she’s looking around. She’s walking around in her brother’s sneakers all day long. She’s missing her brother. She’s missing her mother," Graulau said.
The family said the toddler is scheduled to undergo another surgery in a couple of weeks to have part of his skull put back in place that was removed due to swelling.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Philadelphia Police Department, 215-686-8477.
