PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A suspect in at least two carjacking cases is in police custody after a quick chase through Northeast Philadelphia— ending in a crash. Police recovered the two stolen cars, and that’s not all they found.
Philadelphia police say they got a call on Tuesday evening from someone who claimed to have spotted their stolen Mercedes on Aramingo Avenue in the Frankford area of the city. The Mercedes had been reported carjacked at gunpoint more than a week ago, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
When officers tried to pull the car over, the driver allegedly took off, starting a chase.
The driver headed into Bridesburg, where he eventually crashed into a parked car a short time later. That’s when the suspect took off running, Small said, but police caught up with him. In the scuffle, the cops were allegedly hit and elbowed, but officers say they were able to take the 32-year-old into custody.
Small said police found a gun inside the Mercedes as well as a stolen wallet.
“When he was taken into custody … he threw a wallet onto the ground, and police were able to recover that wallet,” Small said. “It had some stolen credit cards.”
Investigators also found the ID of a totally different person — the owner of an Audi that was reported stolen in a separate carjacking Monday.
The chief inspector says when they went to the suspect’s home, they recovered the Audi.
Officials say the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Nathan Manning, was arrested Tuesday evening and charged with robbery, carjacking and related offenses.

Small added it’s important for people to be aware of their surroundings.
“Today, for some reason, they're stealing Mercedes, they're stealing Toyotas, they're stealing some Hondas,” he said, “And the newer and the nicer your vehicle, there's a good chance that someone's gonna want to take that vehicle.”
Police credit the newly formed carjacking task force for recovering several stolen cars recently.

In December 2024, a jury acquitted Manning of most charges but did find him guilty of receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. In March 2025, Judge Anthony Kyriakakis sentenced Manning to eight to 16 months behind bars.
