PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A pizza delivery driver on Thursday night shot a man who he says tried to carjack him in the city’s Kensington neighborhood.
Police say the driver was delivering food on H Street, near East Westmoreland Street, around 7:45 p.m. when the suspect walked up, pointed a gun at him and told him to give him his car.
The driver then pulled his gun and shot the would-be car thief several times. He is in critical condition at the hospital. The delivery driver was not hurt.
This is one of several recent incidents in Philadelphia in which the intended victim has halted an attempted robbery or carjacking by shooting the alleged assailant.
Nearly two weeks ago in West Mount Airy, a legally armed man shot a teenager who tried to rob him at gunpoint.
In early January, a legally armed Lyft driver shot and critically injured two suspects who carjacked him in West Philadelphia.
