PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police have identified the teen shot and killed Tuesday night while waiting for a bus.

Authorities say 17-year-old Raqib Robbins was waiting for a Route G bus along 58th Street around 7 p.m., near Cobbs Creek, when a young male walked up and began firing. Robbins was shot in the head and later died at the hospital.

“He was en route to somewhere,” said Chief Inspector Ben Naish. “He was with the other individual, but we do think there were individuals that were going after him and he was targeted.”

Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly why he was targeted.

About 10% of all shooting victims this year have been kids and teenagers. This is the 261st homicide of the year — up 37% from 2020’s nearly record-breaking year.

“It is another example of a juvenile shot and, in this case, killed on our streets,” added Naish.
