PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — America’s first hospital will soon become Philadelphia’s newest museum.

Pennsylvania Hospital’s historic Pine Building will be turned into a museum this May, just in time to coincide with celebrations surrounding America’s 250th anniversary.

It will feature eight galleries and exhibits, including the preserved historic library, surgical amphitheater and the newly restored apothecary.

Penn Medicine said the museum will “illustrate previously untold stories about Pennsylvania Hospital’s role in the history of modern medicine.”

Pennsylvania Hospital was founded in 1751, 25 years before the birth of the nation in 1776.
