PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of the teen boys shot Monday afternoon in Brewerytown has died.
Philadelphia police said a 15-year-old and 16-year-old were in a car with two others when they realized they were being followed by another car from West Philadelphia to 33rd and Oxford streets.
The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
“They began to be followed by a burgundy or red vehicle,” said Chief Inspector Frank Vanore. “That following turned into a pursuit, from some of the witnesses and video we collected.
“At some point, gunshots rang out. A passerby did do her very best to try to get two individuals — the 16-year-old who was shot in the head and the 15-year-old that was shot in the foot — into her vehicle and tried to get them to the hospital. The police intercepted and continued them along.”
Vanore said a concerned citizen alerted police of an abandoned gun at 32nd and Oxford streets.
“There is also evidence in the vehicle, the Toyota,” he said. “We have a lot of questions. We know people were in the area. At the time, it was pretty crowded, so if anyone has information on this, we are going to urge people to call 215-686-8477.”
The 16-year-old victim was shot in the head and later died. The 15-year-old was listed in stable condition.
So far this year, there have been 27 homicide victims under the age of 18.
