HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- A day after having a start cut short after 27 pitches, the Astros announced Wednesday they placed Jose Urquidy on the 10-day Injured List due to right shoulder discomfort.
It marks the second time this season a shoulder issue has landed Urquidy on the injured. He missed three starts in May after leaving his May 12 start against the Los Angeles in the fourth inning, but Astros manager Dusty Baker said Tuesday's injury occurred in a different part of the shoulder.
Urquidy, 26, is 6-3 with a 3.38 ERA in 14 starts. The Astros selected left-handed pitcher Ryan Hartman from AAA Sugar Land to take Urquidy's spot on the 26-man roster. Hartman, 27, a ninth round pick by the Astros in 2016, has a 3.98 ERA in nine starts with the Skeeters.
In order to make room for Hartman on the 40-man roster, the Astros designated Frances Martes for assignment. Formerly the organization's top prospect, Martes has undergone Tommy John Surgery and served two PED suspensions since making his Major League debut in 2017.
