The Texans have to find an edge rusher to replace their leader in sacks from last season.
Jonathan Greenard is signing with the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple media outlets. The deal is worth $76 million over four years with $42 million guaranteed, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Greenard led Houston with a career-high 12.5 sacks last season, his fourth since being drafted by the Texans in the third round in 2020. He was a productive player when on the field, but was limited by injuries in his first three seasons, which could have factored into negotiations with the Texans.
The Vikings are getting a hard worker and talented player in Greenard. Meanwhile, the Texans officially pass the torch to Defensive Rookie of the Year Will Anderson Jr., the No. 3 overall pick from a season ago. They will need to find someone to play opposite Anderson, and figure out the defensive tackle spot with Sheldon Rankins also a free agent.
