Texans hope to get Tyrod Taylor back in next couple of weeks, not looking at other QBs

Despite rookie quarterback Davis Mills posting a 0.8 quarterback rating, the worst of the past three seasons, the Texans are not looking for another QB while they await Tyrod Taylor's return.

Taylor was placed on the injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in week two against the Cleveland Browns. His placement on injured reserve requires him missing at least three games, meaning he could return after Sunday's matchup against the New England Patriots.

When asked Monday morning whether the team is looking at other quarterbacks for this week, given Mills' performance in the 40-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Culley said "not at this time."

Taylor is expected back in a couple of weeks, Culley said.

Meanwhile, the Texans' offense is underperforming at every level. They can't run the ball, with just 48 yards on 2.7 yards per carry Sunday at Buffalo.

The Texans entered that game ranked next to last in rush DVOA.

Outside of a decent week one performance from Mark Ingram against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston's run game has struggled since the beginning.

They were at least able to move the ball downfield and avoid penalties with Taylor at quarterback. He was completing over 70 percent of his passes, gaining 9.5 yards per attempt with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

So the Texans are struggling with a rookie quarterback set to make his third NFL start Sunday against the Patriots. They don't have a run game to support him.

And the only foreseeable answer at quarterback is Taylor coming off a hamstring injury.
