It is an understatement to say this is a big year for Texans offensive lineman Kenyon Green.
The Atascocita native and Texas A&M product is entering his third season after being selected No. 15 overall by the Texans in 2022. His first two seasons have been marred by a mix of underperformance and injuries.
But it's mostly been the injuries. Green had a knee issue to start his rookie year, which required arthroscopic knee surgery after the season. Then missed all of last season with a shoulder injury.
Green played in 15 games with 14 starts at left guard as a rookie. The Texans have a noticeable need at the position and it would be ideal if their former first-round pick could fill it.
"Kenyon has done a really great job of putting himself in position to compete," Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said Tuesday. "He did a great job of working through the offseason. He had the surgery last year, so he was battling back through rehabbing. But when the beginning of the year hit, he was just able to focus on himself, focus on his body. Getting in shape, getting stronger and it's really good to see him back being able to play at full health. I think that's what was Kenyon's biggest thing.
"Once he gets over that hurdle, now we can see how good of a football player Kenyon can actually be when he's not battling and dealing with injuries. So I'm excited for what's ahead for Kenyon because he's really put in the work to give himself a really good chance this year."
