
South Carolina's defense shined in their 35-13 home win over Kentucky, Saturday night. The Wildcats got off to a strong start scoring on the game's opening drive. SC responded with a 75 yard scoring drive capped off by a Rashul Faison TD run to tie it, 7-7.
Kentucky closed the 1st quarter with a FG and led 10-7 after the opening frame. The Gamecock defense came alive in the 2nd quarter, that started when Edge Rusher Jatius Geer scored with a "scoop and scoot" on a Kentucky fumble. That gave SC their 1st lead of the night and they didn't look back.
DB Gerald Kilgore then made a play picking off a Kentucky pass and taking it 45 yards to paydirt to make it 21-10. Corner Brandon Cisse then picked off a pass in Kentucky territory to set up a TD drive to make it 28-10 Gamecocks at the half.
In the 2nd half, South Carolina held the Wildcats to just a Field Goal. The Gamecock offense then added a TD to make it 35-13. The Gamecock defense forced 4 turnovers and SC was plus four in turnover margin. They also had 21 points off turnovers.
Gamecock QB LaNorris Sellers was 11 of 14 passing for 153 yards. He also had 14 carries for 81 yards. RB Rashul Faison had two TD runs on the night, as well.
South Carolina moves to 3-2 on the season and they're now in the win column in SEC play at 1-2. The Gamecocks have a bye this week and then will travel to Baton Rouge to take on LSU, October 11th.
